Info (WIP)

SOME INFO
Age: 27
Gender: M
Species: Lombax
Height: 4'9 | 145cm
Weight: 94.5lbs | 43kg
Homeworld: Veldin, Solana Galaxy
Diet: Anatomical herbivore, cultural omnivore
Notable skills: Years of experience in field combat, proficient with a wide array of ranged weaponry, and a far more narrow array of melee. Skilled pilot and mechanic; quick to learn and adapt to new technology. Naturally agile, and athletically adept.
Background: Born on the Lombax homeworld of Fastoon, before being sent to the remote planet Veldin as an infant, Ratchet is one of the last of his species living in the universe (perhaps more specifically, the dimension). Despite an unremarkable upbringing on Veldin, a chance meeting with a small robot provides an opportunity for adventure that turns into a life-long career of protecting Solana and its neighbouring galaxy from any number of threats. Doesn't seem to mind as long as there are new things to shoot. Currently retired.
Overview: Although impulsive and quick to action, Ratchet has enough experience to temper his reckless behaviour...most of the time. Generally sociable and friendly, although stubborn and often sarcastic; tends not to get into verbal altercations or get riled easily. Occasionally a very poor judge of character, often assuming better of people than he should. Helping others tends to be his highest motivating factor, even when against better judgement (his or others'). Comes from a society of many planets, and as such, has a predisposition toward not placing more value on one over another. Not particularly impressed by megacorporations threatening world destruction.

Personality:
Having grown up on a relatively remote planet with little access to the rest of his otherwise expansive galaxy, a younger Ratchet was initially driven by an all-too-common goal; adventure. Adventure, and specifically, a desire to get off his small, out-of-the-way planet. While events in his life allowed for this to happen (and happen and happen), even long after the initial novelty of seeing new planets has worn off, this restless need to see and do new things continues to inform the basic foundations of who Ratchet is.
It's this trait that sees to it that when presented with a new opportunity, Ratchet is likely to take it. There is a small part of him that is very steadfastly thrill-seeking, and much to the chagrin of the more level-headed people around him, delights in even otherwise dangerous or dire scenarios (being forced to participate in illegal combat sports, or the opportunity to pilot asteroid sized weaponized drones, off the cuff). While occasionally crossing into recklessness, this trait also has its advantages, in that Ratchet doesn't shy away from a challenge – even those with poor odds or that he might not otherwise want to do. If it needs doing, you can assume he'll be the one to do it, with only minimal complaints.
Impulsive and prone to making split-second decisions, Ratchet all too often jumps before he looks...a habit that has, unsurprisingly, not always served him well. He typically relies on others to balance this out and be the voice of caution, notably his nearly omnipresent companion, Clank...at least on the occasions where he listens. Stubbornness can often keep him from taking even sound advice, however, and he can be hard to shake from an opinion or decision once it's been made.
This impulsivity of action, however, doesn't often carry too much over into his social interactions, and far from being particularly hot-headed, Ratchet is relatively even-keeled or even laid back when interacting with others. Not prone to stirring up trouble with people, and not easily-riled, Ratchet is more likely to make a snide or sarcastic remark or even walk away than he is to get into a heated argument with someone. If anything, he has, over time becoming surprisingly steadfast about at least trying to approach things sensibly and attempting to talk things through before resorting to a fight. That said, everyone's got their limits, and Ratchet certainly can be pushed to anger or take offensive, although it takes more of a concentrated effort or broaching of more sensitive subjects (not much makes Ratchet angrier than insults to Clank, for instance).
In dealing with others, Ratchet tends to be unrelentingly sarcastic, although not in a mean-spirited way. Coming from a world where he is consistently underestimated, or dismissed, sometimes even in the face of obvious accomplishments, Ratchet has largely learned to let bygones by bygones, and tends to carry a self-assured confidence that doesn't require proving anything to those around him. This confidence only tends to fail in the face of personal failure, in which case he quick to place the blame on himself, often immediately lamenting about what he should or shouldn't have done for things to have come out differently. Case in point, when his two friends, the old warbots Crunk and Zephyr are killed, Ratchet initially shoulders the blame for their deaths, rather than focusing on their actualkillers. While Clank easily dissuades him of his own culpability for things out of their hands, Ratchet becomes very determined to capture and bring to justice the murderers of their friends.
Although there was a time when he far more self-centered, or at least less able to look at the bigger picture, Ratchet has, through time and experience come to largely put others first in his decision making. Even when presented with the opportunity to reunite with his own species, or on another occasion to turn back time in order to save his own family, Ratchet decided that neither was worth the risk to the rest of the people who would be endangered by such actions. These are lessons that were hard learned, and took more than one mistake to really sink in...now that they have Ratchet holds onto them very fiercely.
While not necessarily gullible Ratchet tends to put at least begrudging faith in people's better side above cynical suspicion, and as a result, has an almost comically high incidence of being betrayed, backstabbed or otherwise tricked. He doesn't always seem surprised by this however, indicating that he often does at least suspect it will happen, and that the benefits of working with these people often outweigh the risks. Certainly there are cases where even he doesn't see it coming, of course, such as in the case of Alistair Azimuth, where Ratchet is relatively blindsided by the extremism and lengths the other Lombax is willing to go in order to (in his eyes) save his people.
This poor track record is likely a contributing factor in how loyal Ratchet is to the few people in his life who have proven trustworthy and reliable. Ratchet's relationship with his closest friend, Clank is the pinnacle example of this, as he comes over time to trust his robotic companion's word intrinsically, as well as firmly supporting opinions and decisions Clank makes...even when they contradict his own. As evidenced by Clank's kidnapping in one of the games (as well as several smaller incidences) Ratchet is willing to go above and beyond to help his friends, and has no qualms about throwing himself into life-threatening situations without a second thought (charming but also more evidence of some very poor planning skills). This relationship did, however, take a long time to foster, and Ratchet is unlikely to be quite so agreeable with someone with whom he has less of an established relationship.
